Putting our lives on the line each and every day
Trying to show the youngsters the better way
In a world where tragedy can strike so fast
Each day on the job could be our last.

Spending hours and hours patrolling the beat
So much danger lurking in the street
So many perils that we face
Trying to make the world a safer place.

Dealing with the homeless, the destitute
The pusher, the pimp, and the prostitute
Trying to keep drunks from driving their cars
Breaking up fights at nightclubs and bars.

Calming a woman that has just been raped
Tracking down a prisoner that just escaped
So much anger today, so much violent crime
Mess up, get caught, and you'll do the time.
